The Geminid meteor shower peaked on Dec.13 and 14th as it does every year, I have been anticipating this for months now. I knew the night of the 13th was a pretty busy night for me because of a company Christmas party, but afterwards I had it in my mind and I was determined that I would at least catch one meteor in my frame.
I got home that night around 9:30pm, grabbed my gear and headed out to find a great view of the night sky and found the constellation Gemini "which is not easy with a bright moon". I ended up at my mothers house on the Black Warrior River in Oak Grove, Alabama with a moon that was not cooperating with me , I set up and got my eyes adjusted to the night sky. It was unbelievable at how many meteors I was seeing, so now for the settings I was in Manual mode, I set my F~stop to 3.5 ISO-200 and shutter speed to BULB
make sure you have a cable release and a good tripod and alot of patience when trying to photograph in the darkness, it can be tough but very rewarding when desired results are achieved.
I wanted to go all kit for the image I was seeking, just to show all you people out there that you don't have to have the best gear out there, and also just because you go spend $5,000 dollars on a setup doesn't make you a photographer.
Ok, now for a list of equipment used
Canon 550D T2i
Sunpak 6600 PG
Canon Cable Release RS-60E3
Canon EF-S18-55mm
Shutter was 41 sec.
